About the Project
Inspired by such projects as MURMUR and SOUNDCITIES, Found Wandering is a series of site specific sound projects produced by students from the Sheridan/UTM Art and Art History program. Each sound piece is located in and around Sheridan College’s Trafalgar campus and the UTM campus.
Research
For the first part of this assignment, students created a series of field recordings, photographs, and notes of a specific location that piqued their interest.
The purpose of this exercise was for students to become familiar with the idiosyncratic qualities of their chosen location. This research was seen as a sort of “sketching” or notation of the space.
Production
For the second part of this assignment, students created an independent sound piece that dealt specifically with the space they had chosen. Students combined both sounds from their initial field recording and found sources to mix and produce their site-specific sound pieces.
Listeners may access these sound pieces anywhere in the world through our call-in telephone line and this website.
Please visit the Artists link for full project descriptions, phone numbers, and sound works.
Special thanks to Ronni Rosenberg for initiating this project and Alex Geddie for audio assistance.
