Description of Project
Wish U Were Here is a dialogue between the listener and speaker. It is an intimately casual conversation between distanced loved ones, finding ways to remain connected in their daily spaces. There still remains mystery between the two. They could FaceTime, Facebook Call, or even Skype, rather than sharing photos. Being removed from complete imagery, the listener is pushed to create the memory while following a familiar voice. Distance is obvious. Yet, distance becomes closer through the pinging of thoughtfully taken photos.
In any good relationship, space is essential. Letting one partner live their life while not forgetting themselves allows for constant growth.
This is my love letter to you, the viewer.
I hope you will say, 'I love you' back.
Aside from the concept of a simulated relationship, Wish U Were Here creates a simulated environment, pieced together by found sounds online and blurred recordings of pounding wind against the mic. With the lack of imagery, the voice acts to lead the listener, engage and become a dependant sound that feels familiar and safe. The conversation bounces back and forth, paying attention to kind details and moments to share between the two. It is a private conversation; It is a pointless conversation. But it only matters to you, and me.
